Plastic Extrusion Services

Plastic Extrusion Design Support:

Profile Techniques excels in the plastic extrusion industry by providing plastic extruder design expertise to customers. With extensive experience in plastic extrusion manufacturing, our team offers expert feedback on bespoke plastic
extrusion designs, emphasising manufacturability. We provide guidance on various aspects of the design, including material selection, opportunities for material savings, reducing secondary finishing operations, and enhancing manufacturing efficiencies.

Recognising that the bespoke extrusions we produce often form parts of larger assemblies, we actively seek to understand their fit and function. By combining this understanding with our proficiency in plastic extruder design, we optimise the performance of the final products, ensuring reliability and exceptional quality. Furthermore, our commitment to customer satisfaction extends beyond design optimisation. We integrate customer input into our processes, ensuring that even the packaging and labelling align seamlessly with their operations, for a smooth experience from design to delivery.

Plastic Extrusion Tooling:

Our in-house experts meticulously design our plastic extrusion tooling, integrating our extensive knowledge as a plastic extruder and insights from customer-specific extrusions. This ensures a seamless fit into die design.

Our plastic extrusion tooling is versatile, compatible with multiple machines in our manufacturing facility, offering capacity flexibility to meet unexpected demand peaks. Plus with local wire eroders, we closely manage tool schedules, ensuring smooth operations.

Qualification:

Following the completion of your plastic extrusion tooling, we schedule sample production in line with your project plan. We incorporate your qualification criteria into ours, whether it's ensuring a precise fit with a mating part or conducting dimensional checks. The samples produced can encapsulate both "in" and "out" of line processes (see below for more about “in” and “out” of line processes) to achieve your desired part, providing a comprehensive understanding of the final product. The bespoke extrusion samples are then delivered, preferably in person to facilitate a hands-on observations during your fit check. This not only allows our Profile Techniques personnel to deepen their knowledge of the part but also ensures immediate technical support if needed. A formal sign-off process follows, solidifying the quality and meeting your specifications with confidence.

Production:

We are a well equipped plastic extrusion manufacturing facility with 15 extrusion machines producing 24 hours a day, 5 days a week enabling us to offer capacity flexibility to our customers. Tooling is all checked, cleaned and oiled after a production run to ensure that it is in pristine condition and ready for the next run. Any wear on the tool that could potentially affect the form or fit of the part is reported to the customer with a recommended plan of action. This is typically only applicable for high volume tool usage, and in such an event new samples will be submitted to the customer once the tool has been recut.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it important to get design support for extrusions before manufacture?

Seeking plastic extruder design support can be a really effective way of optimising a plastic profile’s shape before production to ensure it can be manufactured reliably and cost-effectively. Profile Techniques offers design insight to improve manufacturability, material choice, and performance based on decades of extrusion expertise.

What does extrusion tooling involve?

Plastic extrusion tooling is predominantly made up of the dies used in the extrusion process so that PVC and other plastic materials are shaped correctly. Secondary operations may also require tooling to achieve the final part or assembly. Profile Techniques designs this tooling in-house, integrating customer requirements with manufacturing know-how to ensure precision production.

Why is the plastic extrusion die design so important?

Plastic extrusion die design focuses on the creation of the die — the part that defines the final profile shape. Good die design ensures even flow, dimensional accuracy, and consistent quality, and at Profile Techniques this is done in support of efficient, repeatable manufacturing.

How important is plastic extrusion tooling matter for quality profiles?

Plastic extrusion tooling determines how well the raw material is formed into the final profile. Precisely engineered tooling helps avoid defects, ensures fit with mating parts, and supports high-volume production, all of which Profile Techniques manages as part of its service.

Does Profile Techniques offer support beyond tooling and design?

Yes — Profile Techniques integrates tooling and plastic extruder design into a full support service that includes sample qualification, production scheduling, and dimensional checks so parts meet specification before full-scale manufacture.

Can I get bespoke tooling for unique profile requirements?

Absolutely. Profile Techniques’ team designs and builds custom plastic extrusion tooling and extrusion dies tailored to exact customer specifications, ensuring even complex and specialised profiles can be produced efficiently.
